Did you know I used to produce #graphicdesign... quite a bit? 😊
Yes, I began creating art as a youngen, but as technology advanced within my life, so did my talents.
Adobe was created & released in 1990, but at that time - very few households had actual computers, & the internet didn’t even exist yet. Well, technically it began in 1992 - but again, few people could afford computers, and it just wasn’t as much of a necessity then, as it is now.
Research shows, from 2000-2021, thats it’s gone from around 50% to 93% of adult population that are using internet today.
And, everyone is a graphic designer; I’m sure you know at least 5-10 off the top of your head.
I began learning graphic design as basic prerequisites at the Cleveland Institute of Art, but also to further studies for when I was accepted & entered the Industrial Design space.
From orthographic presentations, exploded view product mock-ups, down to packaging, & elements to add to products - I was impressed what new possibilities graphic design brought to my fine art background.
College was tough.
I was accepted into a predominantly male engulfed profession, I was 1 out of 15 accepted within my class into this major. I was one out of 3 women within that 15.
The college was extremely competitive with lots of talent who had taken college prep courses & knew what they wanted to do.
I grew up in Iowa. I was voted “most artistic” in my senior class. That’s about it 🤣
The pressure was def thick.
But, I ended up getting mono, missing finals, & got behind to where it was supposed to carry over into the next year.... It seemed everything I was so excited about started began to fall apart.
I withdrew from college; college made me not want to create for over 2 years. College made me hate what I used to love.
In 2004, I was inspired by a challenge to improve a pixelated awful webcam image of an online friend, into an image with definition, clarity, & quality.
That one creation got me back to creating art again.
Since then, I’ve created so much art intertwined with graphic design. From full corporate branding packages, to photo editing for photographers, & even pre-press setup with color separation - I’ve come a long way teaching myself.
(cont’d in Pt 2, to be shared soon!)
(You’ll soon find out why I’m sharing this info.... 😊)
