Happy 4th Ya'all! I hope you're celebrating our independence mindfully with loved ones, or even your furpal.

I saw this on LinkedIn, and had to reshare because, welll.

I lost my Rocky, July 4th weekend, 6 years ago in Chicago, and I wasn't home to help him. It was an extremely tough loss, sort of completely unexpected. I guess I never expected him to die from his scare of fireworks.

As he got in his elder years, the things we used to be able to enjoy together without a care in the world, suddenly became extremely terrifying for him as he aged. Thunder, lightning, & even fireworks, and gunshots (hello Chicago!) never phased him!

I came home from work to find him on the floor with claws out and choking. I tried pulling him into the shower to let cold water fall on him, and it definitely helped the few times I was there to help him get through it  But this time, I couldn't get him to breathe, I couldn't get his body from being deadweight, and I even tried reaching down his throat as I was so worried he was choking on something, to where he accidentally bit me and I was bleeding all over him while holding him in the shower...crying, balling.

After arriving to the 24 hr ER 45 min from home on the Northside of Chicago, feeling guilty because I was at work and should've been home for him, a vet tech surprisingly asks me if I left my dog in the car?! While my dog is dying and I told you he was in my home with the AC on...I was livid to have to hear this while I'm trying to have my last moments with my Rocky.

I was a mess for 2 weeks straight....because I felt he could've still been okay had I just been there for him.

With that said, I have been wanting and discussing this ever since losing him

Besides being super loud and scary, they create SO much waste and pollution killing TONS of wildlife.

Is our satisfaction of being wowed by shimmery booms worth the welfare of the world? I mean, that's literally what it is affecting.

#buzzkill WE don't make the world go 'round, the incredible creatures living on this EARTH do. And, by continuing to have destructive traditions is not the way to continue.

If we learned anything during the pandemic, it's how much of a fragile state this world is in. Let's not push it.

So how can we become more mindful in our traditions?

By spreading knowledge; discussing & integrating mindful habits into our lives, by changing our way of thinking! Think about how your actions affect everyone surrounding you. Think of NOT supporting events, businesses, or groups that do not share your interests in making the world a better place! Don't vote for candidates that support bombing countries! Write your local congress-poeple, candidates, and more!

Let's try to encourage and inspire others to be more mindful during nationwide or, even, international celebratory moments.
